Port Harcourt— The former leader of Action Congress of Nigeria in Rivers State and governorship candidate of the party in 2007 governorship election, Prince Tonye Princewill, has dropped his governorship ambition for 2011 and vowed to work for the re-election of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Princewill was of the view that it would be foolhardy and amount to making mockery of himself for anybody in Rivers State to want to contest against Amaechi in 2011 in view of the governor’s seeming insurmountable achievements within three years.
“What Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi is doing may not be felt until after he has left. Very few politicians will do this. Everyone is thinking of today and their glory. Amaechi is thinking of tomorrow and our glory,” Princewill said.
A statement quoted Princewill as saying, “Being a well travelled man you should know there is something going on in Rivers state.”
“Now we can educate and treat the poor. I actually feel like crying.”
The statement said, the governor had made objective Rivers indigenes to walk tall, pointing out that, Amaechi’s track record in the education sector, security, health, roads, general infrastructure were empirically verifiable.
“” At this point in time it would be difficult to list out these achievements, starting from offer of free education to our people in primary and secondary schools, Offer of scholarship in the university in any part of the globe. For health, offer of free health in all government_owned hospitals or health centers, free of charge.
There are also efforts in infrastructure and that is investment of at least N100b per year from 2008 till 2010 in provision of roads, bridges and social amenities. Amaechi has also towered in power sector by delving into three power stations built and functional.
In the area of security we all are aware of the state of security before Amaechi assumed office. This necessitated most of those that gave birth to the insecurity in the state relocating to Abuja. If all these feats can’t make any sound mind cry, then I wonder what else can.
From nothing to something and now something strong in three short years, we thank our God. With this development, PPA following an emergency caucus meeting held yesterday at its Srare Secretariat in Port Harcourt has commenced detailed planning for Amaechi’s second tenure campaign”.
