The senate’s third term blow
THROWN OUT’ was a newspaper’s headline, celebrating the Senate crushing of the executive bill sneakily passed to the National Assembly on the apron of the Jega-exigency which sought to reverse an electoral feat already achieved by the NASS-namely the barring of presidential battalion of aides as delegates to presidential party primaries!
Body no be firewood o!
“Body no be firewood o.” This is a saying my husband David heard regularly during his growing up years from his father. In turn, my husband reminds me. From the time David met me he was amazed at the Type-A, non-stop perfectionist tendencies I exhibited. I would go from early morning to late at night without a break. In the twelve years he has known me, I have made major changes. However, I admit I still occasionally return to my old ways. When I do, my husband offers me this Pidgin English reminder and a smile.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!
Dear Jerome,
I will be 38 years old in August; still single, with broken relationships and no job though I am a graduate in Electronics Engineering. I have been jobless for 9 years now. I have no house of my own, no money and have to beg before I get money. Most times, I ask for death. It’s a useless life. I have been looking for love but I always meet the wrong type of men. Ps. 27:14 talks about WAITING ON GOD. I don’t know if I will be able to wait anymore. Every time, I cry and ask God when my sun will shine and all I get is silence.
When fashion is bad for your health
Choices. The ability to make them is one of the most valuable gifts that we have as human beings. In all strata of life, we are faced with choice. In big things, in little things and in all things that concern us, including our moods, we have the gift to make a choice. Fashion is no exception to this rule and if you take a look around, you will see that the style stakes around us have gone very high. In our dear Naija today, colossal sums of money are spent daily on the maintenance of style and looks of our various societal cadres. Also, women in general, regardless of their societal position, are known to happily spend whatever little or much they have on their looks. Don’t ask why; there’s just something in our genetic makeup that causes this as this trait is not limited by tribe or nationality. Female spending is most on hair, face and body in that order!

“I am not guilty”
When I returned from my United Kingdom trip on Monday evening, I did not see my neighbour. He did not come to see me. It was unusual not to see him. At least I would meet him at prayers.

PDP has been taken over by anti-democratic forces – Abiye Sekibo
Recently, former Minister of Transport, Dr Abiye Sekibo, formally declared for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in his village, Okrika. After the declaration, he fielded questions from journalists on the reason he left the PDP.
He also debunked the claim that he and his former boss, Dr. Peter Odili, have parted ways even as he criticised the Amaechi-led government in Rivers State, arguing that his government has shown high-handedness and arbitrariness.

This call was made by the Lagos State deputy governor, Princess Sarah Sosan, during Arise Women Conference 2010 tagged “The King’s Daughter”. Sosan, who was the special guest of honor at the occasion, said it is high time women took up their responsibilities in nation building.
The vicissitudes of justice in Nigeria (2)
We shall also discuss the fairness or unfairness of resorting to plea bargain which offers undeserved soft-landing to prominent Nigerians who were found guilty of elephantine corruption and financial crimes, whereas ordinary citizens convicted for stealing pittance would face up to ten years imprisonment.
Who is misdirecting Waziri?
People ask me if what we, as columnists, say is ever read by those they affect. My answer has always been that, in a division of labour setting, ours is to show the way and leave the decision to follow the way to those who so choose. We can’t force anyone, but whenever things later go bad, in spite of our shouting and yelling, we go back in time and point to what we said that may have been ignored.
Old me to young me
Lately my mind has been fix ated on my younger self and how great it would be if my older self had the opportunity to have a talk with that young lady.
Packaged Democracy: The Fierce Battle For Presidential Tickets
This report takes a critical look at the high stakes, intra party power play between presidential contenders across the political divide and concludes that what delegates may be presented with may just be a fiat accompli. It also reveals the real reasons why senators shot down the amendment proposal for Electoral Act, 2010. The question: How would a choreographed political party convention further the cause of democracy, or the one man, one vote mantra?
