Ben Efe, in New Delhi
Athletics officials are still expecting four athletes here in New Delhi, as the track and field events began at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium yesterday.
The athletes include African Championships triple jump champion, Tosin Oke, Seun Adigun, Laurretta Ozoh, and Abinuwa Endurance.
London_based Oke is one of the favourites to win the triple jump gold, following the absence of Melbourne 2006 champion, Philip Idowu of Britain. Oke’s 17.21m is the third best jump in the Commonwealth and he is expected to face Grenada’s Randy Lewis who has a season’s best of 17.29m Idowu has the leading jump of 17.81m this season. The triple jump event is billed to start Monday and AFN officials are hopeful that Oke will be in by then.
