The dream of Boy Westerhof of Holland was to win the first leg of the 10th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship, but he got a shock of his life when was sent packing by Isreali Amir Weintraub in a quarter final match played at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.
Weintraub, tournament number 3 player was too hot for Westerhof (7) as he fell in a game that ended 6-4,2-6,4-6.
Also number one seed in the male event, Belgian Niels Desein justified his rating in the Etisalat/FCMB sponsored championship as he out stroked Indian Ranjeet Virali-Murugesan in straight set of 7-6(6),6-4 to move to the semi final scheduled for Friday. Karan Rastogi of India beat French Laurent Rochette 6-2,6-2. South African Raven Klassen beat Melaine Klaffner of Isreal 6-1,7-5.
In the female’s event, Slovak lady, Zuzana Kucova showed her prowess to repeat the feat she recorded at the Governor’s Cup last year, as she strokes on to the semi final of the Women’s Singles by defeating Germany’s Karolina Nowak in straight set of 6-4,6-3.
