The Second Redeemer’s University (RUN), Convocation Lecture, titled: Nigeria at 50, What Celebrations!, is to be delivered by the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at 2.00 pm, on Wednesday September 29, 2010 at the RCCG Youth Centre, Redemption Camp.
It would be recalled that the first RUN Convocation Lecture was delivered by Dr (Mrs.) Obiageli Ezekewesili, the Vice President, Africa Region of the World Bank. The title of her lecture was “Character is Destiny; The Story of Nations; Princes and Beggars”.
Other activities planned for the Convocation week are Sunday September 26, 2010 – Convocation Church Service Tuesday September 28, 2010 – Awards and Recognition Dinner Thursday September 30, 2010- Convocation football match Friday October 1, 2010 – Special Holy Ghost Service for graduating students Saturday October 2, 2010 Convocation for the awards of degrees to graduating students.
In another development, a new Deputy Director of Works and Physical Planning has been appointed by the Redeemer’s University (RUN). His name is Mr. Kenneth Nzefili . Mr. Nzefili, is from …(give the town) in Delta State He was born on May 20, 1960 in Kaduna, Kaduna, Mr. Nzefili attended the St. Pius Xth Grammar School Onitcha Ugbo, Delta State from 1973 to 1978, and the St. Finbarrs College Akoka, Yaba, Lagos from1979-1980. He was at Federal School of Arts and Science Mubi Gongola State from 1980 to 1982 for the GCE advance level certificate.
He was at the University of Lagos, , from 1983 to 1989, where he obtained the Bachelors degree in Architecture. In 1990, Mr Nzefili was at the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Works and Housing in 1990, for the served his NYSC assignment.
Thereafter, he worked with the Projectscope Limited (1991-1992), and the Godwin Hopwood Kuye Architects and Urban Planners (1993-1995). He returned to the University of Lagos, and between 1996 and 2000 he studied for and obtained the Master degree in Architecture.
Between 1996 and 2010, he worked in various establishments, including, Western Projects Consortium, Urban and Village Consultants and the Wattle and Daub Limited. He has supervised many projects. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects. Mr. Nzefili is married with three Children.
Meanwhile, Mr. Samson Onanaye of RUN Department of Mathematical Sciences, was among the more than 3, 000 delegates to the 2010 International Congress of Mathematicians held between August 19 to 27 August, 2010, in Hyderabad, India.
The Congress which took place at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, was declared opened by Srimati Praitibha Patil, the President of India. Dr. K. Rosaiah, the President, International Mathematical Union (IMU),. sponsors of the Conference, was also in attendance.
Dr. Rosaiah said the congress would continue to focus on the importance of Mathematics as a discipline as well as a tool in science and technology. Mr. Onanaye, presented a paper at the congress titled “ Steady state solution of optional Production Control of a dynamic five-product Manufacturing System with set of costs and setup time”.
Various awards were presented, including the Field’s Medal, to Elon Lindenstrauss of Hebrew University Jerusalem, Israel. Other award winners included Ngo Bao Chau of Universite Paris-Sud, Orsay, France and ; Staisiav Smirnar, of the University the Geneva, Switzerland.
Also, a new acting Head has been appointed for the Department of Mathematical Science at the College of Natural Sciences at the Redeemer’s University (Run). He is Dr. Kayode Samuel Adekeye. Dr. Adekeye obtained the B.Sc and M.SC degrees in Statistics from the University of Ilorin Kwara State, in 1990 and 2001, respectively.
He received the PhD Statistics degree in 2004 from the University of Dortmund, Germany.
Dr. Adekeye was a staff of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin from 1992 to 2004. He also served as part time Lecturer at the University of Ilorin and as Associate Lecturer at the University of Agriculture Abeokuta. He was appointed Senior Lecturer at the Redeemer’s University, Department of Mathematical Sciences in 2007.
He is a member of Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA), Member, and American Statistical Association (ASA). His current research work is on Monitoring of HIV/AIDS Prevalence Rate Using Statistical Quality Control Charts among other works.
However, Mrs. Titilayo Olukola, a Lecturer at the Redeemer’s University (RUN) is the recipient of a grant from the Getty Foundation. This is to support her participation in the 2010 Congress of the International Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (11C), holding in Istanbul, Turkey, from .
The grant covers travel, board and other conference expenses. The International Institution for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (11C) is a Company Limited by guarantee registered in England (N0.481522) and a registered charity (No. 209677).
