Anambra: 2 PDP lawmakers declare for APGA

 By Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA— TWO members of Anambra State House of Assembly belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have declared for the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state.

They are Mr. Benson Nwawulu, representing Ogbaru 1 state constituency and Mrs. Chinwe Nwaebili, representing Ogbaru 11 constituency.

The declarations came on the heels of the declaration for the party by the governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, his cabinet and the entire members of the state legislature last week.
There are indications in Anambra State that more members of the PDP-dominated legislature would defect to APGA for the purpose of contesting the 2011 elections.

The declaration, which took place at Atani, Ogbaru local government area, attracted a large turnout of politicians from across the state.

According to Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Dubem Obaze, the development is a prelude to the eventual capture of the state legislature which is entirely controlled by the PDP.

“In the next three months, we will be speaking of an APGA-controlled House of Assembly. This revolution, which started here today, will spread all over the state,” Obaze stated.

The decampees cited what they described as the leadership confusion in PDP and Governor Peter Obi’s great achievements in Ogbaru as the prime reasons for their defection.

Nwawulu commended the leader of APGA, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, for fighting to preserve Igbo identity through APGA.
