Fire razes The Sun newspapers

An early morning fire , Tuesday, burnt the press hall of The Sun newspapers, destroying equipment and other valuables worth millions of naira.

The inferno, which according to eye witnesses, started from the staff clinic located near the press hall destroyed part of the printing machine, newsprint, forklift and ink meant for the printing of the day’s edition

Some staff noticed the fire suddenly, when they saw smoke within the press hall, while they were printing the paper expected to come out yesterday morning.

“We have started production when we suddenly saw smoke coming from the clinic, which is adjacent to the press hall. Immediately, we struggled to evacuate ourselves from the hall as well as  putting out the fire, which was approaching fast. Several calls were made to the fire service radio room, from where the fire service men arrived to assist in putting out the fire,” a witness said.

It was learnt that the efforts of the staff to stop the fire failed, until the arrival of the fire service men who came with three vehicles, including a tanker with number plate LA 129 A40, to quenched the fire at about 5.40 a.m.
