Jonathan’s luck good for Eagles — Kalu

Pillar of Sports, Dr.  Orji Uzor Kalu,  Sunday, joined President Goodluck Jonathan to wish World Cup bound Super Eagles well in South Africa, urging them to use the magic in the President’s name to advantage

“There is so much to the name and I hope the boys can bank on it.Names can do wonders. Argentina once had a President called Carlos Menem. But he was re-christened Carlos The Menace because they believed he brought soccer badluck’, Kalu said.

The former Abia State governor urged the Eagles to always go to bed with the Presidents last two send forth words – farewell and goodluck – which he described as enough tonic.

“Mr. President used his name to wave them bye. That says a lot. He is one man who follows sports more than many of us know. At Sydney 2000, then as Deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Jonathan was the highest ranking Nigerian official at a reception hosted by the Nigerian community in New South Wales. He interacted freely with all. Among those in the hall were Samuel Peter, Deji Aliu, Bisi Afolabi and Senator James Manager who was then a commissioner in Delta State”, Kalu added.

He likened the 2010 Eagles to the 1996 Atlanta team that left Nigeria in tatters only to stun the world after smashing Brazil and Argentina.

“The same scenario is playing out now. This team, I don’t know. But don’t rule them out yet. They have the 1996 features. Diego Milito sounds like Bebeto. We shall see what happens in South Africa.”
