ABUJA—Some members of the National Assembly have formed a think-tank body dubbed “The Legislative Working Club” at  the expansive Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

The club ground is a painfully “manicured” green lawn bounded by lush hedges, fan tress  and whispering willows beside the home of one of the members.

The club, yesterday, hosted some  former Speakers of the House of Representatives, former Reps and Senate members,  Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbona Onovo, five serving ministers and some high-ranking members of Nigerian defence and security forces.

Hon. Halims Agoda, who is the founder of the club and host to yesterday’s cocktail, told newsmen that the club is aimed at bringing together members of the National  Legislature to meet in an atmosphere of conviviality and discus issues before tabling them at the two chambers of the National Assembly.

“We usually do this while having our exercise and after, in the morning,” he said.

“We believe that at that time, one is at his mental best to bring in his optimal input into national issues,” he added.

“You will be surprise that at the end of each meeting after our exercise, we usually come up with all kinds of solutions to the worrying problems confronting our nation”, he said.

“That is not all”, he went on, “today you can see the calibre of people that have come to honour our invitation”, he said of his guest.

“Do you think that in this serene  atmospheres full of smiles and music, we would not want to understand ourselves on issues that may have been dividing the executive and the National Assembly?”, he asked.

He said that they have also invited some members of the executive, because some of them were former members of the National Assembly.

“We want to assure them of our love, and to explain to them what we do at the Legislative Working club”, he said.

“We want to tell them that we are behind them in the task of governing this country”, he said.

Some of the important guest were two  former Speaker of Reps. Alh. Aminu Bello Masari and Mallam Umar Ghali Na’aba. There former deputies – Chief Chibudum Nwuche and Chief Austine Okpara were also there

The Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey, the Minister of Works Senator Sanusi Dagash, the Minister of Sport Mr. Ibrahim Bio and the Minister of Labour Mr Emeka Nwogu were also in attendance.
