Ogbemudia debunks factionalisation claim

By Gabriel Enogholase

BENIN—The Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has described the claim of factionalisation in the party by eleven members of the party in the State House of Assembly as an afterthought and misleading.

In a statement in Benin weekend by the factional Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Francis Omo-Osunde Iyasere, leadership of the faction called on the public to disregard the claim, as there was no iota of truth in their statement.

Prince Iyasele urged the people to treat the views expressed by the PDP legislators in the House as an attempt to discredit Dr. Ogbemudia, himself and the party, adding that modern politics transcended party politics and politics of bitterness as recently demonstrated by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

According to the faction, this was demonstrated in President Umaru Yar’Adua’s appointment of Governor Adams Oshiomhole to broker peace between government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

He maintained that the call by the Dr. Ogbemudia-led faction on members of the party in the House of Assembly to resume sitting was borne out of the party’s concern for the people in their constituencies who, in the first place, voted them into the legislature to represent them.
