Babalakin donates cricket kits to GCI

By Philips Adefioye
Government College Ibadan Old Boys (GCI) Cricket team have received the donation of twenty bags of cricket kits from one of the team’s former player and student, Dr Wale Babalakin(SAN).

The presentation of the kits to the club took place in Lagos at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval after the first innings between Government College Ibadan Old boys Cricket Club and the Foundation Cricket Club at the on-going Club Cricket Committee(CCC) Division One League.

Dr Babalakin said that GCI was a great institution and that the founders had great foresight but that the school has been facing challenges for sometime now, adding that it is the plan of the old boys to give a facelift in sports and in other activities.

He said despite not being an outstanding cricket player in the GCI cricket team, the donation of the kits was his own contribution for the development of the game in general.

“GCI was a great institution, the founders had great foresight but the school has been facing some challenges now. I believe that these schools should be handed over to those who are interested in developing them.

Though I was not an outstanding cricket player in Government College, probably because I was very fragile when we were there, almost all of us played cricket either at the national team level, State level or for the school team. The game is a good game internationally but the painful aspect is that it hasn’t received enough attention in Nigeria,” he said.
