Family seeks payout over acquired land

WARRI—GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has been called upon to pay the monetary compensation to the Opiti family for illegal acquisition and occupation of the family land at Uzere, Isoko South Local Government Area since 2002 by the former James Ibori administration.

In a petition to Governor Uduaghan by counsel to the family, Chief A.J. Okpakpor, the family said that the state government had earlier admitted acquiring the farm land illegally and built 10 bungalows on same without enumeration of crops and damages done to property.

They argued that the Head of the family, Pa. Edward Ugeh, through their counsel had written several letters of protest since then to no avail and expressed regret that all the Ministry of Land, Survey and Urban Development had done till date was to issue order for the execution of  an “expert valuation of the land to know the actual value” that was never carried out.

The family in the petition to the Governor,  said “denial of right to private property or to compensation cannot be in conformity with your three-point agenda” and urged the Governor to step into the matter urgently to save the Opiti family from further deprivation, oppression,  hunger, starvation and untimely death.
