Delta shuts 4 clinics

By Austin Ogwuda
Asaba — DELTA State Ministry of Health has announced the closure of four medical outfits in the state over unprofessional and deficient practices.

The Ministry, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Churchill Oyowe, in Asaba yesterday, listed the closed outfits as New Maxom Clinic, Warri; Salvation Clinic and Maternity Home, Effurun; Lizmart Clinic, Effurun, and Mekako Clinic, Ughelli.

According to him, “the Director of Medical Services and Training in the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Daniel Omodon, led  a team of officials to effect the closure, saying that the affected medical outfits suffer deficiencies in facilities, personnel and standard practice environment.

“Dr. Omodon said the sealing up of the substandard health outfits was part of efforts by the Ministry of Health to ensure acceptable standards that would safeguard the health of Deltans.”

He added that, “the closure of medical outfits that fall short of professional standards was a continuous exercise that would cover the nooks and crannies of the state.

“While calling on already registered outfits in the state to renew their status, the Director advised operators of unregistered medical outfits to take seriously the six-week ultimatum earlier given  them to register in order to avoid closure and possible prosecution.”
