Lagos—The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, yesterday urged the police to prosecute any politician  planning to disrupt the February 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

The Inspector-General of Police, IG, Mr Ogbonna Onovo, on January 7, had alleged that politicians in Anambra State were recruting armed robbers to assist them in manipulating the governorship poll.

The IG  had further  alleged that fake police uniforms were now in possession of some politicians in the state for use during the election.

Onovo, who made the revelations while addressing governorship candidates and other stakeholders at an interactive session ahead of the February 6 election, explained that the information  came from intelligence available to the police.

Speaking in Lagos, the CNPP National Chairman, Chief Maxi Okwu, said, “the Police is expected to make arrests on such serious issues rather than discuss them with politicians at a meeting. We expected the IG to make arrests as a deterrent to others planning to cause mayhem during the poll.”

The governorship candidate of the National Democratic Party, NDP, in the election, Chief Chijioke Ndubuisi, lauded the revelations, saying the police needed to act fast on the information.
