FORMER ambassador to Gabon and Ukraine, Ambassador Ignatius Ajuru and his driver were Sunday gun  down by heavily armed robbers around Obehi, a border town between Rivers and Abia states.

His orderly at press time, was reportedly on danger list at a hospital in Port Harcourt. Lamenting the brutal killings, governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, enjoined the police in Abia State to step up effort  at checking  the activities of armed bandits at the border town

The governor said he was deeply worried with reports of armed robbery operations at the town which he said had claimed the lives of several residents of Port Harcourt who for one reason or the other ply the link road in the community.  According to the governor, no fewer than four prominent Rivers people have lost their lives in robbery operations on that road.

He pleaded with the police in Abia to double its effort in policing of the area, assuring that the Rivers State police command would be willing to partner with the Abia State command to ensure that Obehi which has now become a crime hotspot is safe, especially during this festive period.

At press time, the remains of the former ambassador had been deposited at a morgue in the state capital.
