OWERRI—In its renewed attempt to realize its primary healthcare policy, the Imo State Government says it will employ more Environmental Health Officers and rehabilitate health centres in the rural areas.

The Secretary to the Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu, made this known, while addressing  Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria in his office in Owerri.

“It is important to note that the duties of Environmental Health Officers conform with the state government’s clean and green initiative,” Iwu said.

According to him, “this administration places high premium on good sanitary habit as a panacea for sustainable healthy citizenry,” adding that this informed the establishment of Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) and the creation of the Ministry of Petroleum and Environment.

Earlier, the Council Chairman and Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Yunusa Danyaya, who spoke through Chief Anthony Ezekwesiri, commended the state government for taking proper care of the environment.

He said that the body choose Owerri as the headquarters of the South East Zone, in appreciation of the environmental friendliness of the state government.
