PDP NEC storms Benin for unification rally

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, and other members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party, would storm Benin City, Edo State, tomorrow for the unification rally of the warring factions of the party in the state.

Though the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia-led faction of the party had Wednesday disassociated itself from the rally, tagged “Mother of all Rallies”, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) grounds, Benin City, Secretary of the rally Organising Committee, Mr. Paschal Ugbome, however, expressed optimism that all the contending issues would be ironed out before the rally.

According to him, “we are re-branding the party in the state and Dr. Ogbemudia is a key leader. “We know he wants the progress of the party in the state and he will do everything to ensure that we succeed.

“Apart from the re-branding exercise, the rally is also going to afford us the opportunity to flag-off a state-wide campaign for new members of the party because we have a lot of people who have left the AC and ANPP to join PDP.

“As a grassroots party, we have a lot of challenges ahead, particularly in this situation that the AC has taken over Government House.

“So all PDP faithful in all the wards and local government areas in the state are expected to be at the rally which is designed to sensitize members of the party and galvanize the party for a greater height.

“We are expecting our national chairman of the party and other party leaders from other states to come and address the rally.

“Edo State belongs to the PDP and we are ready to reclaim the state come 2012 governorship election and the 2011 House of Assembly and National Assembly elections.”
