Businessman wants education sector repositioned

ENUGU—CHAIRMAN of the Main One Cable Company Limited, Chief Fola Adeola, has called for the radical overhauling of the nation’s educational sector, saying there is need to redesign the educational system at tertiary level in order to propel individual and society discipline as well as ensure sustainable growth and economic development.

Chief Adeola, who delivered  a lecture at the 49th Founders’ Day celebration of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said  his call does not suggest that the country’s education was without a design, but questioned who the agenda was meant to serve.

According to him, the Nigeria education system similar to many other African systems coming out of the colonial era, had not changed from the paradigm of education for economic development.

“The idea of building significant amount of human capital is to produce people with the knowledge, skill, attitudes and values that is not only favourable to economic and social development, but also necessary for national integration”, he said.
