YOLA â€” Ten persons have been confirmed dead in an auto crash that occurred yesterday at Sangere Village about 20 kilometres to Yola, the Adamawa State capital, while 20 others sustained various degree of injuries. The accident involved a luxury bus and a lorry.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Adamawa State, Habu Dauda, told newsmen in his office that the luxury bus with numberÂ plate XU 825 ENU, belonging to Gold International Transport was on its way to Onitsha from Mubi in Adamawa State.
The Sector Commander explained that the lorry was parked by the road side without alert signs and that the luxury bus rammed into it killing five persons instantly.
He said the incident could have been avoided if the luxury bus driver was on normal speed, saying on getting close to the abandoned lorry, a fuel tanker suddenly surfaced and the luxury bus driver lost control and crashed into the lorry.
Dauda said on getting the information on the accident, a rescue team was immediately dispatched to the venue when the dead and injured were rushed to the Yola Specialist Hospital.
He warned drivers, motorists and other road users to be extra careful while on the wheels, especially during the ember months.
