Aliero engages 150 corps to arrest beggars, destitutes

Abuja—Minister  of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero weekend engaged the services of 150 members of the Peace Corp of Nigeria to assist the task force of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) as part of moves to keep Abuja clean.

According to Aliero, the Peace Corp members who will work in conjunction with the AEPB staff, the Police are saddled with the responsibility of arresting beggars and destitutes from all the hot spots and then move them to the Old Parade Ground Mobile Court in Area 10 for subsequent prosecution.

Inaugurating the Corp members in Abuja weekend on behalf of the Minister, the Director, AEPB, Dr. Abubakar Yabo who noted that the FCT Administration was determined to sanitize the environment of the nation’s Capital, stressed that the policy of the present administration was geared towards making Abuja free from all forms of hawking and begging along all junctions and streets of the city.

According to him, the hot spots include the A.Y.A. junction, Mabushi, Area 1, Berger junction, shopping centres, Federal Secretariat along Shehu Shagari way, Kubwa road, Nyanya, Karu, Giri and Gwagwalada.
