BENIN CITY — A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Mr. Sunny Aguebor, has linked the protracted factional crisis rocking the party in Edo State to the personal interest of some leaders of the party.
He stressed the need for leaders of the party to embrace the on-going reconciliation moves, warning that the party may lose future elections in the state unless they forget their personal interest and work for the interest and survival of the party.
Aguebor, who spoke at the harmonization meeting of members of the party in Oredo local government council of the state weekend, regretted that the earlier harmonization exercise that was done by some leaders was selective and failed because it was selective.
“Therefore, we want party leaders in the state to be open-minded in this exercise so that we can achieve success,†he said.
Speaking also at the meeting, the leader of the party in the council, Col.Paul Ogbebor, urged the members to disregard rumors that would further plunge the party into crisis, adding that “you can only be a leaders when you have people behind you.
“Therefore, we must make sure that we do things that will keep our supporters intact so that at the end of the day, we will be proud that we have achieved peaceâ€.
On his part, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr Francis Iyasere, said he was satisfied with the meeting because “people from both factions of the party attended.â€
He added that “what we all want is internal democracy. We believe in the rule of law, so we must learnt to play politics of rule law and not that of impositionâ€.
