Rep escapes assassination

By Tordue Salem
A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dave Salako, was at the weekend saved from an assassination attempt on his life at his Apo Legislators’ residence, Abuja.

Some suspected assassins, according to reports, had broken into the house of the lawmaker, representing Ikenne-Remo Federal Constituency of Ogun State at midnight to snuff out his life, but found he was not in the room.

Salako, unknown to them, had left the FCT earlier in the day.

One of the neighbours of the legislator in Apo told newsmen that the assassins left his bedroom without removing anything, including his brief case and mobile phones which he left behind, suggesting they came for his life.

One of them said the hoodlums, whose number was not determined, left foot marks and finger prints in Salako’s bedroom, as they tore through the ceiling to drop directly in the bedroom, with all doors leading to the House untouched.

Salako has since abandoned his residence to an unknown location in Abuja from where he has been attending the House sessions and his commitee assignments.

His neighbours added also that he had since reported the attempt to his life to the police whom he said had detailed forensic experts to take finger prints of the yet to be identified criminals.

Efforts made by Vanguard to speak with the lawmaker over the incident were yet to yield results at press time, as he insisted he would comment only after the police have concluded their investigation into the matter.

He also refused comments on whether the incident had anything to do with the rumblings in the politics of his home state, while he directed newsmen to the  police whom he said had commenced full scale investigations into the crime.
