Obi hails Ola’s Appeal Court victory

By Tony Edike

ENUGU—VICE Presidential candidate of the Action Congress (AC) in 2007 election, Senator Ben Obi, yesterday, hailed Bode Ola, the AC senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central for regaining his ‘stolen mandate’ through the legal process.

The Appeal Court sitting in Ilorin , Kwara State had on Tuesday nullified the election of Senator Adefemi Kila of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ekiti Central Senatorial district and declared Ola  winner of the April 14, 2007 election having secured the highest number of votes cast in the poll.

Senator Obi, who recovered his own mandate nearly two years after it was wrongly given to Senator Ikechukwu Abana by INEC to represent Anambra Central Senatorial district between 2003 and 2007, said Ola’s victory at the court was the beginning of the recovery process of stolen mandates in Ekiti state .

“I want to join numerous well-wishers of Senator Ola, who have patiently waited for him to recover his stolen mandate in congratulating him and welcoming him into the red chamber. You will recall that as was in my case, I pioneered the struggle of recovering stolen mandate in a battle which lasted 20 months.  His (Ola’s) is of course is a similar situation.

“This is a crucial moment as he joins the Senate as the newest Senator to add vigor, energy and robust vibrancy in the deliberations of the Senate,” Obi said.
