ABUJA — A new Chief of Defence Intelligence has assumed office at the Defence Intelligence Agency. He is Major General Babagana Mongonu and he is taking over from Major General Musa Sa’id who has retired from service after 36 years of an unblemished career.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony on Friday, General Sa’id who was one time the Defence Adviser to London described his sojourn in the Nigerian army as a successful one and thanked God for granting him good health to do the job.
According to him, “Anything that has a beginning must have an end. After 36 years, I am leaving but General Mongonu that is taking over from me is a very capable replacement because he is hardworkingâ€.
While introducing the new CDI to staff and officers of the agency, General Sa’id urged them to give the same maximum support he enjoyed from them to General Mongonu pointing out that the hard work staff of the agency did during the Jos crises and the ongoing Niger Delta crises is well appreciated by government. He advised them against grumbling and gossiping positing that ‘great minds discuss ideas.
Those with average minds discuss events while only those with weak minds, discuss people’ adding “I wouldn’t want the DIA to degenerate to the last oneâ€.
The new CDI, Babagana Mongonu who hails from Bornu State was until his appointment, the Deputy Commandant at the National Defence College . He has served as the Guards Brigade Commander, Director of Logistics at Army headquarters and Defence Attaché to Accra , Ghana .
