SON tasks manufacturers on standard

By  Dennis Agbo

ABAKALIKI—THE Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has charged manufacturers in Nigeria to strife towards achieving  the ISO 9000 quality  management standard, which it said  provides  model for company’s operation system.

SON gave the charge, yesterday, when it presented the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificate to Juhel Nigeria Limited’s Ivy bottle water, which SON said conformed to Nigeria Industrial standard ( NIS 306:2003).

Making the presentation in Enugu, SON’s Director General Dr. John Akanya said that Ivy was the first bottle water manufactured in Enugu and Ebonyi states to receive the mark of quality, noting that the process to the award of MANCAP is usually painstaking, but quite rewarding.

He charged all manufacturers to ensure that their products are not only of highest attainable quality but that they guarantee the safety and well being of the consumers.

Akanya, represented by the South East zonal coordinator of SON Mr. Adamu Olufadi said that the process to the award of the NIS involves series of factory inspection visits and consistent quality checks, both on the-spot (using company facilities), services of a competent registered analyst and above all the SON well equipped laboratories at both Enugu and Lagos headquarters.
