Nigeria’s Under-23 team suffered their first loss in their build-up to next month’s London 2012 Olympics qualifying tournament as they fell 1-0 to Westerlo Academy team yesterday.
“This is totally unacceptable. It’s unheard of that an academy side beat a national team,” stated a disappointed Stanley Eguma, who is acting as head coach in the absence of Austin Eguavoen.
Substitute Aremu Hafiz grabbed the match winner on 77 minutes when he combined beautifully with his teammates before he finished off when he came face-to-face with goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye.
The Olympic team lined up their top stars in the Nigeria Premier League like Monday Osagie, Kingsley Udoh, Gbolahan Salami, Ayo Saka and Osas Okoro along with overseas-based pros like Ajiboye and Ganiu Oseni.
