ABUJA— As the world marks this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, former Vice President and chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC,  Atiku Abubakar, has called on the government to actively initiate policies that would empower the nation’s young girls to grow up believing that they can do and become anything they imagined.

Despite overt attempts by several stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to woo Atiku Abubakar back to the party, the former Vice-President may be restrained upon indications of increasing resistance to him in the top hierarchy of the party.

Power at the top is white hot. It is not for the timid. Leadership is also not for those contented to follow the crowd – usually of human sheep. With the 2019 elections only seventeen months away and the two major political associations – the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP – in disarray, lacking leadership, Nigeria is in deep trouble.
