He was not planning to travel by air. He had never travelled by air in his entire life. He was sleeping in his bedroom. He was only a motorbike rider, popularly known as okada. But he was killed by a plane. If Mr Nwabuwa Okafor had known what fate held in store for him, he would probably have stayed back in the village with his wife and children. Nwabuawa was one of the victims living in the two storey building where the plane crashed into at Iju/Ishaga area of Lagos last Sunday, June 3, 2012.

As the horrendous news of the Dana air crash reverberated within the week, sending mourning signals to the families, relations, friends, colleagues, offices, business associates of the victims,even the native land where they hail from; some persons and indeed, the media capped it all by referring to the ugly incident as a black Sunday because as many as 153 souls were sent to the great beyond just in a jiffy—unsung.

NIGERIAN poet, Odia Ofeimun, in the second stanza of one of his poems titled Lagoon captures the enduring memory vault of the sea when he writes:

Since assumption of her husband as the governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun has demonstrated enough capacities by showing compassion to the needy. She is of the view that a little care to the needy in any society can make a lot of difference. Thus, to her, the task of UPLIFTing the downtrodden in the society is a must.

THE ruins allegedly brought about by the fighters of Eastern Obolo and Western Andoni of Rivers State on Ikot Akpan Udo villages in Ukpum Ete clan in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on April 28, 2008 are still visible almost four years after.
