By Ise-Oluwa Ige Last Tuesday, members of the two chambers of the National Assembly passed a special resolution pursuant to section 145 of the 1999 constitution, empowering Dr Jonathan Goodluck to act as the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Achuzia warned that Dr. Jonathan should not retain any person that has the ability of stabbing him at back later in the federal cabinet and urged him to examine the membership closely and do the “right thing” by removing them.
“The next thing I expect the Acting President to do is to pray to God for wisdom to see that the issue of security is tackled.

If something is very strange and it is not efficacious, the doctrine of necessity will save that. The doctrine of efficacy means all the instruments of coercion and administration must accept and fall in line with the doctrine of necessity.

THE Senate decision empowering Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President last Wednesday signaled the dawn of reality to the legislators. It was especially so for some elements in the leadership who had fought and mobilized to no avail to stop the move.

Although Governor Peter Ob‘s gubernatorial victory in last Saturday election has been embraced by most of his rivals, there are indications that he still has hurdles to surmount before retaining his seat at the Government House Awka.

Anambra disappointed all after all. Awka and its environs were calm few hours after last Saturday’s governorship election. The tension and uncertainty that enveloped Anambra in the build-up turned out much ado about nothing after it was all over. Immediately after poll ended, it was as if nothing happened.

Mr. Josiah Uwazuruonye is the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner. In this interview conducted immediately after the last Saturday governorship election, he spoke on the poll conduct and how politicians in connived with unscrupulous INEC officials to distort the voters’ register used in the election and efforts made to correct same. Excerpts:

Like most Nigerians of his ilk,Pastor Tunde Bakare has for some time be deeply concerned over socio-political and economic affairs of the country. From the pulpit, he often describe himself as belonging to a generation that will change Nigeria for the better.

NO DOUBT this is not the best of times for Nigerians. Before now virtually every aspect of the country’s life has been dysfunctional. But capping this quagmire with an ‘offshore’ president, has become a nightmare. Hence the nation seems to be drifting to doom.

The country has never had a head. The only challenge here is that there could be emergence of army to come to power. Although we pray for Yar’Adua, we cannot continue to wait for him. And I pray Jonathan is safe. But, we will not allow any military to come to power. If the military takes power, then, we will be forced to go on the streets. We have done it in the past, we will still do it again.

A man who has been in coma will sign a document of about 300 pages when he had to sign every page. Common sense tells us that is not possible. And even if he signs, was he conscious of what he was signing. Did he know the implication even to himself. Was he mentally alert to know it was the supplementary budget he was signing. You see when people talk, they should be mindful that we’re not fools.

I had every reason to be because I believe that President Umaru Yar’Adua had enough zeal and goodwill and support of the people to run the country well. And from the little knowledge of him that I had also and the kind of programmes that were articulated right from the beginning especially as it concerns power, I had very great hopes.
But unfortunately, the health of the president has been dominant in determining the success or otherwise of Mr President.

You see, when you tell one lie, you tell five others to cover that one lie and another ten to cover that five. Why can’t we do simple things? My friend Aandooaka will tell us, as if we are stupid that the constitution does not make provision for a superhuman being, what has super humanity got to do with what we are talking about? Any body could take ill, the problem in Nigeria today is not because Yar’Adua is ill, it is the management of the illness, management of the information, the impunity that they are treating all of us and the absolute disregard for the constitution that is the problem.
