THE thinking was that with the involvement of ex-militant leader and founder of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, MEND, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, in Oil Facilities Surveillance Limited, OFSL, a pipeline surveillance company, contracted by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to police oil pipelines in Delta State, oil thieves would scamper to their holes.

Two intimate friends, Obinna Maxwel, 21, and Elijah Ejiagha, 23, shared a robust relationship. In fact, residents of Orile, a suburb of Lagos State where Obinna lives referred to them as brothers. But two weeks ago, the relationship turned sour following an argument over Obinna’s refusal to pay Elijah N50,000 which he owed him. In the process, a fight reportedly ensued during which Elijah slumped and died.

When members of a notorious robbery gang stormed Adebowale wood Industry at Oregun area of Lagos State and burgled a warehouse and carted away electronics worth over N35 million; owners of the goods thought they would never recover their goods giving the sophistication of the robbery operation at their warehouse.

A 30-year-old man, Taoreed Oseni, was over the week, arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year old girl, Azeez Titilayo.

Lagosians experienced the most violent robbery operation last Sunday, after a 12-man-robbery gang in a convoy of three vehicles held the entire state hostage. The heavily armed gang in a commando-like manner, fired sporadically as they moved from one area to another, leaving in their trail the death of three policemen and several others.

For almost two weeks,there was growing apprehension over abandoned bundles of carpet at the Nigeria Aviation Handling Company NAHCO, a subsidiary of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria FAAN. Some officials of the aviation handling company thought it could be one of those abandoned consignments, others thought otherwise.
