I love Nigeria

Love the skin you are in

Love the skin you are in

In 2014,  I wrote ‘Brown is the new white’I did so in response to the fact that Nigeria was top of the league table for bleaching. It ratcheted up the love for bleaching by going even paler, in the shade of white. From creams to potions to all out white. No, this is not progress, it is self loathing and misguided.  It is shallow and narrow minded. It is very dangerous and harmful.

One day on, one day off

One day on, one day off

My mother and I have our daily catch up on the phone. Since my father, Kola Animasaun’s passing, our daily catch up has intensified, more on both sides as we love reminiscing, but also my mother always keeps me abreast of what is going on in her immediate surroundings. I love and cherish our conversations more now than ever. It is as if my father was by her side, eavesdropping as my mother and I gas on and he often looks on with a contented smile.

Rice, rice everywhere, but not enough to buy

If you want to know how  the economy of a nation is performing ,ask the cost of staple food. You start with the price of the most staple foodstuff; the price of bread or in the Nigerian case, the price of gari or rice. We do love our rice and other than Asia,  Africans consume metric tonnes of rice. Nigerians in particular, can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Unless you have been under a rock on the dark side of the moon, you could not have missed the recent exposé by the BBC: Sex for grades. If this was shocking for some, it definitely was not for millions of Nigerians.

TAYO Fatunla draws HIS-story – 30 years on

The first time,I met Tayo was in Punch many moons ago. As part of a new wave of cartoonists in Nigeria, he created a buzz and it was infectious. He has a way of looking at the world that we always anticipate what he will draw next. He never disappoints.
