Trouble rousing

I am still trying to get a handle on what really happened, how 72 Nigerians of Igbo extraction were dumped in Anambra State. Really, can you be deported in your own country? So what exactly is going on? The former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, was up in arms that the Governor of Lagos State acted unconstitutionally by deporting them that he has issued a 7-day ultimatum for the governor to apologise and stop future illegality from happening.

By Denrele Animasaun “There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow men. There is no greater contribution than to help the weak. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well.”-Walter Reuther As you know, I am a reverent supporter of the dynamic Ogbeni Aregbesola. I  cannot  say it enough and

Show me the way to go home

You know how they say; East, West, home is best? Right. Well, I haven’t been to Nigeria for close to 25 years now so, where do I call home? I have always felt that Nigeria is my home but, my son came up with a happy medium that home, is where your family is. So I guess it is the UK because that is where my family and my heart is. When push comes to shove, though, I am a Nigerian born in the UK. I will always carry Nigeria with me, and I let people know that from the onset. Why haven’t I been home? And why that long? I don’t know, it just happened.

Let’s do something

It has long been established that Nigeria is a country of extremes. Many of its appellations is not worthy of praise nor its citizens got much to be proud of lately. I know Jonah brought out his score card and gave his administration a pass. Well, I am sure those who mark their own score sheet are biased and they would do so dishonestly, especially if they are failing miserably. The facts speak for itself; too many Nigerians have never had it so bad and it is unlikely to change their lot any time soon, unless this government can honestly acknowledge like the other administrations before it; they are squandering our national wealth.

The trouble with Nigerians

Last week, Wednesday, evil visited the streets of South East London and in broad daylight too. The news came in trickles so as not to alarm people; it was in the evening that the full horror of the event was unleashed as we watched a surreal still picture of a young man clutching a bloodied cleaver and knife. It was very horrific, gruesome and shocking. Across the street, you could catch glimpse of a body lying on the floor. It was the lifeless body of drummer Lee Rigby, a serving soldier in the British army.

Berlusconi goes to prison

It seems the Teflon Don is finally getting his judicial just desserts or so it seems. On Monday when the Italian prosecutors demanded that the former Italian President Silvio Berlusconi, should be handed a prison sentence as well as a life time ban from politics, outside the court building the judgement was greeted with equal measures of cheers and jeers. Such reaction is typical Silvio he, often divides the emotions of Italians over the years and it seem that whatever he does or says, he gets away with it.

Jets, egos and all things tasteless

Pardon my ignorance; I really did not pay closer attention to the existence of Governor Chibuike Amaechi until the private jet situation. The River State governor,it must be said has a passion for the finer things of life. And I guess, he does feel his office demands the absolute respect wherever he goes in and out of his state. His ego must have taken a huge dent when he was told that his private jet cannot take off.
