I MUST confess that I have no pity, sympathy or regret for those ‘checking out‘of Nigeria for good. They are the losers because of many things they would miss in their miserable absence. In Nigeria, there is no dull moment as this is a wonderful country where there is that notion that “everything goes”. Beautiful Nigeria, I hail thee.

I love my country, Nigeria dearly and I cherish its loving people immensely. In Nigeria, there is no dull moment as everyday brings its own contrasting news from sadness and hopelessness to happiness and hope. That is Nigeria for you and its own peculiar characteristics. Unlike Denmark which contains the happiest people in the world, Nigeria portrays a delightful mixture of sadness and happiness.

THE week that the Bureau of Statistics announced the healthy state of the Nigerian economy (with impressive growth rate of 6.3 per cent also carried the pleasing news of the recapture of Bama (in North-East of Nigeria) by the gallant security forces from the ravaging Boko Haram insurgents

Nigeria is an interesting country where “everything goes” and where all things are possible even as the events look clumsy. Amidst claims and counter-claims about the loss of Gwazo and Bama, the gallant security forces are fighting ferociously to maintain the Nigerian territory against the onslaught of the Boko Haram insurgents.

Contrary to what an expartriate colleague said to me in 1976 (after the coup that toppled Gen Yakubu Gowon from power and the bloody overthrow of his successor, Gen Muritala Mohammed) that “I am happy that I am not a Nigerian”, I am proud to be a loyal Nigerian citizen Nigeria is a country of absolute beauty and of continually changing phases. But I must confess that Nigerians are as unpredictable as the English weather.

IN a week free of the usual news of violence, it is not out of place to look at other national matters of great importance. This does not exclude funny comments, howbeit uncharitable, on political events.

THE Osun State gubernatorial election, bitterly contested has been won by the incumbent governor, Ogbeni Aregbesola in a hard way. Following the PDP victory in the neighbouring Ekiti State, the political pressure was on the APC to show that it controls the political soul of the South-Western zone of Nigeria.

As Nigerian politicians are busy preparing for the 2015 elections, perhaps the murderous gangs of insurgents are also busy perfecting the logistics of throwing their deadly weapons on their selected spots at the time of their choice. There is that simple theory that notorious insurgents have infiltrated everywhere.

In the normal (by Nigerian standard) week that witnessed shedding of innocent blood in Kaduna and other places, I join other Nigerians in celebrating the miraculous escape of the former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari from attempts on his life. The country has been saved from the proverbial “monkey and baboon soaked in blood” episode, perhaps on a larger proportion to the last bloody clashes witnessed after the 2011 presidential election. It was also pleasing news that President Jonathan recognized this while expressing sympathy on those who lost their lives in the dastardly attacks.

THAT this country is blessed with both human and natural resources is axiomatic. Also, every day or week in Nigeria provides its own events – good or bad. It is the delight of any clever newspapers` columnist to either analyse or satirize. It is always fun.

To many Nigerians and foreigners, Nigeria is a complex country, baffling in its complexity, difficult to manage and seemingly impossible to govern. Nigeria‘s newspapers‘ brilliant columnists are often caught and placed in confusing circumstances.

This week seems to be full of many interesting events – the usual carnage of Boko Haram killers and the assuring forecast that the reign of terror might, sooner than later, come to an end. It might be that the end of the month of July (month of fasting and sacrifice) could signify the start of the period of peace in the country.

THERE is no doubt that many patriotic Nigerians would prefer to engage themselves in argument on how Nigeria could attain greatness and maintain such to merit the appellation of the gGiant of Africah bestowed on it by the benevolent foreign friends of the country.

IT is evident that many patriotic Nigerians are not happy with the current political and economic situation in the country. The condition of the ‘Nigerian situation‘ has always agitated serious minds since democracy returned to the country in 1999 after the hazy harmattan of military usurpation of power in the past decades.
As the Presidency was evidently celebrating the return of Ekitiland to the fold, the insurgents were busily engaged in killings and abductions in Borno and Kano States, Kaduna State not exempted. It is curiously observed that though Nigeria could geographically be described as one country, it is true that the problems of the country are viewed differently by different people in different parts of the country.

There is no doubt that many laymen, not excluding myself, are often confused about some sweet economic jargons and interesting elegant statistical figures being constantly thrown at them. However, some are no longer stranger to the melodious music of macro-economic stability of the domestic economy.
