ASABA—DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has inaugurated a 31-man Committee to study the Local Content Bill and work out modalities on how Deltans can benefit immensely from it. He called on Deltans not to be on-lookers but be active players in the oil and gas industry.

Saying that the Act will open up new prospects not only for big indigenous companies but also for the locals, he said, “we should leave the stage of on-lookers to the stage of active participation in the oil and gas industry.”

Also, the state Governor has charged Vision 2020 council members in the state to prepare a blue print that would propel the state to be one of the most industrialized and developed states in the country by year 2020.

Presiding over the 4th meeting of the council in Asaba, Uduaghan said the recommendations made by the 12 sub-committees set up by the council should be critically examined to ensure an all embracing implementation.

The Governor charged the council not to be in a hurry to come out with a workable document but should take time to analyse and assess the needed materials, saying, “this process has taken this long but it is better for the council to come up with recommendations we can work with than to be in a hurry to conclude our findings.

I have gone through the document as produced by the 12 thematic work groups with allocation of primary responsibilities including a Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. They have done a good job.”
