LAGOS—Ahead of today’s National Convention of the Action Congress (AC) in Lagos, Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, has described the purported plan of his party to merge with AC as false and an attempt to cause confusion in AD.
Denying any attempt to attend today’s convention in Lagos, Akinfenwa said there was no time the leadership of his party met or made any arrangement to be part of AC or attend its convention, noting that he was surprised when he was inundated with phone calls by his party loyalists, who were asking him questions regarding the alleged merger plan.
According to him, “no efforts had been made by either of the political parties to come together or be part of their programmes, including today’s National Convention.â€
In a telephone interview, Akinfenwa said though there was a meeting where Afenifere leaders opined that all Yorubas should work together to uphold the enviable legacy left behind by late political sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
However, he said, all efforts to hold a meeting to straightened the rough edges did not bear fruits.
He wondered why his party would be joining a party which did not hold any local delegate congress as a step for today’s national convention.
