Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Champions League competition Heartland FC teed off their campaign in this year’s edition with a draw against visiting Al Alhy of Egypt.

But while the chairman of the club, Ignatius Okeahealam is pointing accusing fingers at the center referee for the team’s performance,  Technical Adviser of the Naze Warriors Samson Siasia says the team need to be more focussed and disciplined to make any impact in the competition.Siasia acknowledged the fact that the Egyptians are a tough nut to crack but stressed that they are beatable.

“We have to be disciplined as a team. If you are a defender, there is every need to defend well and other departments as well. We also need to take our chances. It is not enough to create chances but we must convert them.

That is the way forward.  “We have quality players in the team but from what I have seen, we still need players in the striking position. We will sit down and look at the striking options before us and who to bring in.

“As regards the team’s next game, Siasia said playing away is a difficult thing so there is need to elevate the team’s performance, by ensuring that the players are fit and also by encouraging them to give their best. We are playing an Algerian side, so we have to put our house in order”, he said.

Heartland with Kelechi Emeteole and Ben Iroha as Technical Adviser and coach respectively failed to grab a CAF Champions League slot in the just concluded Premier League season, a feat that led to the change of guards in the team.  Siasia has a six-month contract.

He is expected to change the clubs fortune and get a better deal. “Well I have a six-month contract after which we will sit down and talk”, he added.
