BENIN—A proJonathan youth group, Youths Ask for GoodLuck, YAG, yesterday in Benin, Edo State, said that President Goodluck Jonathan cannot be intimidated  in his bid to contest the 2011 presidency, along with  former President Ibrahim Babangida, if he decides to run.

Saying that the Nigerian people are solidly behind the President, should he decide to contest next year’s presidential election,the youths added that Jonathan does not need to flex political or financial muscles with the former military president or anybody, as only the Nigerian people were the ones to decide who would rule them come 2011.

National President of YAG,  Mr John Oyebuchi, who disclosed this while inaugurating the Edo State chapter of the group, said“Jonathan does need to flex muscle to contest with IBB or any other contenders.

The people of the country are fully behind him and they are going to determine who is going to be there.”

He maintained that the issues of zoning by the PDP had long being jettisoned by the party in 2003 ,explaining that it would only be fair that the South_South region that remains the goose that produces the egg produce the President.

“In the first place there is no zoning formula in the PDP and you heard the national chairman of PDP saying the zoning formula has been jettisoned since 2003 because if there is zoning you don’t collect money from every body in the Country and turn around to say there is zoning so abinitio,  zoning was killed by the party it self”

“ Anything that has been destined by God will always come to past .Going back memory lane, the north have had the Country  for 38 years while the West 12 years, where is the South –South that lays the golden egg? It important for us to be realistic and look at things the way they are.

How can you ask Jonathan to go home after he had a running ticket and unfortunately the person died, they have eight years from PDP because if Yar Adua was alive he would  have complete his tenure. Le ust understand and appreciate our position, he argued.

In a related development,the Edo state publicity secretary for the group Mr. Andrew Young Ehidiamhen, said the objective for the clamor was informed by the exigency of the time and the demand for good governance, insisting that purposeful leadership has eluded the country for quite a long time.
