ABUJA – INDICATIONS emerged Thursday that the industrial crisis between the Kogi State Government and the organised labour will soon be over as Governor Yahaya Bello and some labour leaders have reportedly met for the amicable resolution of the crisis.

Recall that the President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba had penultimate week threatened that labour from all parts of the country will be mobilising for a showdown with the Kogi State government for owing workers in the state employ for many months and also for the recent proscription of unions in Kogi State University by the government.

Comrade Wabba while briefing journalists in Abuja had said, “We have seen the response of the state government that he was not owing 11 months salary, but eight months.

“Even if it is one month, I think it is most unfortunate. This situation will require our attention and we are going to act decisively and respond to the issues.

“The governor should be ready to receive Nigerian workers in the no distant time. We will also take our protest to the National Assembly and the Presidential Villa because he has been very irresponsible even in his approach.

“Many workers have died in similar circumstance through this irresponsible act of negligence because despite the resources that accrue to the state, workers have not been paid for a period of between five and twenty one months.

“The same thing applies to Pensioners and so, we think this is a matter of life and death because if people can go to the extent of committing suicide arising from this incident, I think it is an issue that requires our attention.”

But the Managing Director of Kogi State Agricultural Development Project, ADP, Mr. Oyisi Okatahi has assured that the lingering dispute between the organised labour and the Kogi State Government was getting immediate attention and would soon be over.
