Nwodo settles Enugu PDP factions rift tomorrow

By  Henry UMORO, Abuja
THE National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo has summoned leaders of the two factions of PDP, Enugu who are locked in a supremacy battle over who controls the party to a reconciliation meeting in Abuja.

The summon followed a petition on the crisis rocking the party in Enugu state, which was submitted to Chief Nwodo yesterday at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, by one of the factional Acting Chairman, Barrister Reuben Ochi.

Nwodo who was represented by his Principal Secretary, Aminu Salihu Yakudima, gave the assurance of an amicable solution to the problem stressing that all the parties involved in the case will be invited to Abuja tomorrow to resolve the leadership crisis in the state.

In the petition, Chief Ochi urged the National Chairman to revisit and address the imposition of unelected officials as members of the state executive committee by the immediate past National Chairman, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, which has led to  the ongoing crisis in the party.

He alleged in the petition that they were duly elected as members of the state chapter of the party on February 28, 2008 at MacDavos Hotel and their election duly acknowledged by the party national secretariat.

He stated further in the petition that the election was conducted by officials from the national headquarter of the PDP, and supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). And a certificate of Return signed by the former National Secretary, late Bernard Eze was duly issued to them.

However the erstwhile Chairman, Prince Ogbulafor abruptly withdrew their recognition without any reason.

Part of the petition reads, “Subsequently, the list of these elected officials as members of the Enugu state Executive committee was incorporated in the party’s brochure for the National Convention, which took place on March 8th 2008 at Eagles Square, Abuja.

“By strange gestures in complicit ambivalence, then new PDP National Chairman, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor gave fillip to the sudden rise_ from the blues-of a group which began to parade itself as the state Executive Committee, of the PDP in Enugu state.
