Zoning: AC faults PDP

LAGOS – The Action Congress, AC, has, however, raised an alarm over the on-going controversy on the PDP’s zoning policy, saying it could be a ploy by the ruling party to distract the attention of Nigerians from more urgent issues like how to ensure free and fair polls in 2011.

In a statement in Lagos by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party, yesterday, described as unfortunate the elevation of a mere party issue to the level of a national discourse.

It called on Nigerians not to allow themselves to be sucked in by the PDP zoning debate, which could be a ploy by the sinking behemoth to pull the wool over the eyes of the people while the party perfects its rigging plans for next year.

The statement said: “Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. The PDP zoning issue is a party affair and should remain so. It is about how to share the spoils of office, not how to raise the living standard of hapless Nigerians.

“Needless to say that the PDP’s zoning is out of sync with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and therefore of no interest to millions of Nigerians who are daily struggling to eke out a living in the hell-hole that the PDP has turned Nigeria into in the last decade.”
