Borno State has assured the 2010 Batch “B” corps members newly deployed to the state that it would do everything possible to ensure their safety during and after their mandatory one year service.
Governor Ali Modu Sheriff, who gave the assurance at the swearing-in ceremony of about 1,500 corps members deployed to the state last Thursday, stated that Borno was the  home of peace and hospitality, adding that his administration will not spare anybody found wanting or guilty of breaking the laws of the land.

Sheriff, who was represented by the state commissioner of Water Resources, Alhaji Abu Kyari stated that the orientation course is one of the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC Scheme which can never be ignored by responsible government, as it provides the platform for physical, emotional and psychological reconditioning of corps members to withstand the challenges of the service year, through the realization of an ideal environment for comprehensive harmonization towards enhancing national development.

The governor added that his administration attached more priority to corps members safety and welfare, particularly as the country will soon witness another general elections come 2011, where corps members are expected to be “ambassadors of democracy” at their respective places of assignment, pointing out that, they must do everything to support democracy through putting more emphasis to the values of fair and healthy competition, non-violence, social responsibility, due process, accountability, good governance, positive leadership and tolerance.

Earlier in his welcome address, the state co-ordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Habibu Kurawa congratulated the corps members of successfully graduating from their various schools and meeting the requirement that have qualified them for mobilization for the mandatory one year national service, and therefore advised them to see the opportunity as a special favouir from God Almighty and make very good use of it.

Kurawa stated that since the inception of the scheme, it has impact positively on the lives of the people living in both rural and urban areas, as well as succeeded in bringing together hitherto segmented Ethnic groups through interaction of youths from different ethnic and geographical locations in the country.
