THE Chairman of Progressive Shareholders Association of Nigeria, PSAN, Mr. Boniface Okezie in this interview withFinancial Vanguard spoke on the recent listing of Med-View Airline Plc on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, saying that it was a good development in the capital market and aviation industry if only the company can sustain its services and performance. Excerpts:
By Peter Egwuatu
HOW do you see the listing of Med-View on the NSE?
Well, it is a welcome development to the stock market as well as the aviation industry. I came here to the floor of the NSE as an investor to hear what the company has to offer. From the presentations of the fact behind the listing of the shares on the Exchange, I am satisfied.
The airline has distinguished itself from other airlines in terms of services rendered and operations and I hope it will be sustained or even surpassed as it continues. It should not follow the foot step of other airlines that came to this market and failed. I will criticise them when they go wrong.
We encourage other participants in the aviation industry value chain to look seriously at leveraging the opportunities that abound in the Nigerian capital market. I also call on the federal government to work towards creating an enabling environment for the revival of the aviation industry in Nigeria.
What is your take in terms of its services and financial performance?
In terms of their services, it is one of the best airlines you can talk of for now. I have flown the airline severally and it has never disappointed in terms of take-off time or landing. As for their financials, with what they have presented to us, it has been progressing right from 2012 to 2016; we hope it will be sustained. What shareholders are after is good returns on their investments. If the returns are encouraging, you will see many shareholders patronizing the shares and this will lead to higher pricing of the shares.
Do you think that at N1.50 per share it was listed the company is adequately valued?
Well, since the stock market generally is down, I think it is well valued. Like I said earlier, if their services and financial performance are maintained or surpassed, you will see the price going up because of higher demand. The company is no longer a private company, so all eyes will be on them. They should supply timely information to investors and operators regarding operations and performance. All these and other sentiments will help to push up the share price.
Do you see the company paying dividend?
If they want to attract patronage from investors, they must declare dividend to shareholders. I will invest in this company given what they have presented. I will not fail to criticise them when they go wrong and that is to make them sit tight.
Aviation business is capital intensive and I know in future, they will be looking for more capital to inject. Getting capital might not be a problem but managing it well is what most airlines lacked. As a shareholder, I am interested in returns and share bonus as well as the market price. Once the company is doing well, surely it will pay dividend.
