BENIN—EDO State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, inaugurated the technical committee on the development of Gelegele port with Mr. Greg Ero as chairman.

The committee is expected to come up with a master plan for the development of the port.

Governor Obaseki said the development of the port was a sure way to foster economic development in the state.

He said apart from its historical importance, the Gelegele port, when developed, would create jobs, boost the state’s revenue and economy through the creation of agro-industrial park.

According to Governor Obaseki, the port would also increase the economic competitiveness of the state, noting that government’s objective was to make Edo the economic hub of the South-South region.
