Former Sultan, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki
Abuja – The Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, on Wednesday visited the family of late Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki in Kaduna to condole with them over the monarch’s death.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Hassan Turaki, in Abuja, said Dogara was accompanied by some members of the house, including Chief Whip, Ado Doguwa and Deputy Leader, Buba Jibril.
Dasuki, who was Sultan of Sokoto between 1988 and 1996, died on Monday night in an Abuja hospital at the age of 93.
Dogara extolled the virtues of the late monarch whom he described as a patriot and an elder statesman.

“In life, when someone of the late Sultan’s status departs, we thank God for longevity and life well spent even though we always feel the pain of physical separation.
“We know that this is a very difficult moment for the immediate family having lost their patriarch.
“When the greatest among us depart, no word of condolence or exaltation expressing what they were is enough to celebrate them.
“The only way we can celebrate them is to remember those qualities that they exhibited when they were alive and what they stood for, struggled for, issues of justice, equality and service to humanity.
“If we remember all these things, then propose within ourselves that we will promote these virtues for which they lived and fought for,” he said.
The speaker urged the family members to emulate the late Sultan and follow the virtues he promoted.
“For us here, my plea is that we remember his eminence, the late Sultan, remember his times here, what he stood for and those virtues he promoted and then we purpose within us that we are going to replicate them.
“That is the best way to ensure that his memories linger forever.
“We bring condolences to his immediate family.”
Responding on behalf of the family, Magajin Garin Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmad Bamalli, expressed gratitude to the speaker for the visit.
“I want to say a big thank you to the speaker and appreciate you for coming to condole with us.
“It is a very difficult time for us in the family.
“You are a member of this family because you considered our late father as your father too.
“We remember when he was ill you sent a very powerful delegation to London which visited him in the hospital; we appreciate you,” he said.
