ABEOKUTA—The national leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has directed non-teaching staff who are members of the union at the Federal University of Agriculture ,Abeokuta to commence warning strike in protest against the sack of 23 members till further notice.
The SSANU in a letter signed by National President Samson Ugwokefcpa directed to the branch Chairman of the Association said the branch should commence warning strike till further notice.
The management of FUNAAB had sacked no fewer than 23 staff who are members of SSANU for their alleged involvement in a petition written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission acussing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole and the Pro-Chancellor of the Governing Council, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe.
The union’s letter to it’s members read in part; “In view of the uncooperative attitude of Vice Chancellor and the management of FUNAAB over the ongoing industrial action in your branch as evident in reported cases of mass suspension and termination of appointment, NAC at its meeting today, November 9,2016 has directed that you continue with the warning strike until further notice.
“Please ensure strict compliance with this directive until you receive further directive from NAC”.
Meanwhile, the South West leaders of SSANU has vowed that it would picket FUNAAB today to protest the sack of their colleagues.
Meanwhile, the institution’s Governing Council at its 90th Statutory Meeting, confirmed that some staff were disengaged from the services of the university for various offences, which includes stealing of University property, insubordination, wilful disobedience to lawful instructions, absconding from assigned duty posts, sabotage and other forms of gross misconduct, prejudicial to good governance and peace of the University
