Renowned Security expert, Dr. Ona Ekhomu has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for keeping an important campaign promise of: “Bringing back the Chibok girls.”
Ekhomu said the release of the girls was a very positive development as it showed that, “the Federal Government cares enough for a group of Nigerian citizens to do whatever it takes to set them free for captivity.”
Ekhomu, President of Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON), said that the captivity of the Chibok girls for over 900 days was a great embarrassment to the government and people of Nigeria as it portrayed the Nigerian government as impotent and incapable of assisting citizens who are victims of terrorist kidnap. He said that despite the long period of captivity, the fact that 21 of the girls came out alive was commendable.
Ekhomu maintained that obviously the girls were not rescued in a fire fight. Rather, they were set free by Boko Haram as part of a negotiated settlement.
