ENUGU—PRESIDENT of Ogbete Main Market Traders Association, OMMTA, Chief Temple Ude, has posited that the institutionalisation of state owned police in all the 36 states of the Federation, will curb the menace being caused by Fulani herdsmen.

Ude who said this in an interview in his office while reacting to Nigeria’s 56th Independence Anniversary, said that he was convinced that if all the states have their own police other than the Federal police, it will check the havoc being caused by the armed herdsmen that stop at nothing to commit crimes.

He said the state police being mooted at the National Assembly would go  a long way in checking the problem since the state police would be under the control of the state governors.

“I suggest that this thing they are talking about state police is necessary.   Every state government should have its own police that will enforce its laws,” Ude suggests.

On the independence proper, the OMMTA boss said that Nigeria had no cause to celebrate because public utitilities were not being enjoyed by  the citizens.

According to him, many artisans were suffering because of poor or lack of power supply, pointing out that top men in Nigeria go abroad for medical treatment because of poor medical facilities in the country.
