Sapele—Delta State Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Mr Ithiako Ikpokpo, has cleared the air on the status of the over 10 months salary arrears owed council workers in the state, saying that the state government was not indebted to the workers in the 25 local government areas of the state, putting an end to claims that the state government was to be blamed for councils’ indebtedness to its workers.

Ikpokpo, who disclosed this yesterday in Sapele, during his official tour of Sapele Local Government Area of the state, said, “The state government is not owing council workers in the state. It is the councils that are owing their workers.

” The reason is that when we go for the Joint Account Committee, JAC, meeting at the state level, the council workers are usually not thoroughly briefed on what happens. ”
