His appointment as Shooting Stars Sports Club General Manager brought from fresh breath of life into the Ibadan based club that languished at the lower division for years, struggling for relevance.
But the coming of the former Racing Santander midfielder saw a renewed vigour and determination by players and technical crew to make it back to the elite division.
Shooting as the side is fondly called, where one of the top three clubs in the country and any encounter with other strong clubs like Rangers or Bendel Insurance of Beinin always attracted a full house to the stadium..
Mutiu had vast knowledge of the game and he transformed the Oluwole Warriors as fhey made a glorious return to the elite division. A few people did not believe in the young man but that did not count as he marshalled the team’s new drive.
As Shooting struggled in the Globacom Premier League, optimsim began to wane as the Ibadan found themselves in the lower rank of the league. The trust Ibadan fans and 3SC management had in him suddenly dropped and there were allegations of financial mismanagement agaiisnt the former Super Eagles player.
Also, there were reports that Oyo State government withdrew the N350m grant already approved for the club. In his reaction, Adepoju denied that nothing of such happened .
According to him, the club only gave their budget for the season which is still in progress.
“We only gave our budget for this season and we are hoping for an effective response from the Oyo State governor. Nothing has changed. We are still in the same level of payment, they only left increment on salaries and sign-on fees,†he said.
On the alleged financial misappropriation, Adepoju said it was all lies, saying that every thing done in the club are all documented. “There is nothing like misappropriation of fund in the club. Every thing we do in the club is always documented. People are just trying to rubbish my image and reputation.
“It is clear that people want their fellow human to fall rather than excel, my case is not different. Since they have accused me they should as well prove their case.
