ILORIN – Residents of Kwara, Lagos and Kano states would soon bid bye bye to epileptic power supply as a United states of America, based organisation, Arrow Capital and University of Ilorin have concluded arrangement for the construction of 500 megawatts Solar energy project worth 2.3M US dollars, about N600M within the next six months.
The duo of Arrow Capital and University of Ilorin signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the project which would be situated within the University of Ilorin.
Vanguard checks revealed that the project which would commence this month will be completed and commissioned in October, this year
It was further gathered that out of 500megawatts to be generated the university environment and indeed the whole of Kwara state would need only four megawatts.
Vanguard also learnt that the remaining megawatts would be sold to Kano, Lagos states and indeed other parts of the country that would be interested, so as to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the concerned areas and thereby improve their well being and boost business and economic activities in those areas .
Speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the US based company, Arrow Capital, Mr. Mr. Brian Travis said that, the signing of the memorandum was in line with the current efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to provide a conducive business environment for would be investors that would like to enagage in profitable business activities in Nigeria.
He said that, apart from this, it was also a move to add values to the socio economic growth of the country through the construction of the solar energy for the teeming masses of the country due to the problem of power supply being faced by Nigerians presently.
Mr. Travis added that, by the time the project is completed, the company would generate 500mgwts of solar energy and the university will be given 4mgwts so as to ensure the university has stable power supply to run all its power generated machines in the institution and ensure conducive living for the students and other members of the academic community.
He also said that, the remaining mega watts would be supplied to Lagos, Kano and other parts of the country that may likely show interest and thereby bringing economic benefits and households usage to the companies and people of the affected states in the country.
Mr. Travis however said that, the initiative would also provide employment opportunities for the teeming young unemployed graduates in the benefiting areas .
He also noted that the University of Ilorin among others was considered for the laudable project because of its uninterrupted academic program in the last sixteen years,hence the institution need to be encouraged.
Responding, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali commended the organisation for the project, stressing that the university, Kwara state and indeed Nigeria which are the potential beneficiaries of the power project are looking forward to the speedy completion of the project.
